Community Action & Initiatives

Advocacy, community initiatives and partnerships are essential to promoting the health of our community. Through the South Riverdale Community Health Centre, Riverdale residents can learn about the issues and players – and get involved.

Available Programs:

The East End Network (EEN) is a group of organizations and agencies located in Toronto’s East End. It is a network that meets monthly to share information and ideas about local issues, projects and research that may be of interest to members in the network and the people they work with.
Furnishings and building materials, molds and cleaning products may lead to chemical insensitivities, allergies and asthma. Residents and activists work together to raise awareness about indoor air quality and children.
The Plain Language Group is a group of volunteers who review printed health information (pamphlets, posters, booklets) to make sure it is easy to read and understand. We do three things: 1. We advocate for health literacy in our health centre and our community. 2. We learn about plain language and improve our own skills. 3. We work with people who want to write in plain language.
A monthly information, discussion and action group for people concerned about development in the Portlands between Leslie and Cherry Streets. Development issues include housing, industry and recreation, as well as access, transit planning and environmental protection.
A group of cyclists who advocate for bicycle lanes, traffic calming and good relationships among pedestrians, bicycles and cars. Ad hoc meetings and email communications for cycling advocates in the BUG network.
